Bulletin Board Blues

Poland Regional High School bulletin boards are outdated. They need changes, updates, useful information and some pizazz.
Last year, the bulletin board next to the front office became a “Bright Knight” board. It remains unchanged since the first posting, unless you count students ripping down the photos of other students. This board had a QR code that you would scan with your phone. It would link you to a form and you would send in positive information about another student. Good idea, right?
“This board is outdated … old news,” observed senior Hunter Brackett said.”Kids change so it’s not necessarily accurate. “
Not only that, but responsibility for updates seems to be a mystery flying under the radar. Hard to find out who the point person is here.
Hunter assumes the SRB (Student Representative Board) ran this board. He would like to see the board dedicated to senior class memories.
Mrs. Meader, dean of students, said she thought our digital photography class ran the board. The board could have been done for juniors to get their community service completed.
“We could do a student hoot board,” for which students complete forms containing positive encouragement and positive affirmations, Mrs. Meader said. “The staff does this weekly in our meetings,” she noted. “We need to make a point for kids to read it.”
She also suggested larger type and less content on the bulletin boards so that students can process “fly-by” messages and not spend too much time in the hallways reading announcements.
The school entrance bulletin board would be a good place to profile the senior class. Many younger students look up to the “big” seniors and this could help them to see into the life of the average senior. This would mean a lot to the senior class. This board is one of the first things you see when you enter high school. It is how PRHS presents itself to visitors.
Nobody seems to know what is going on with the entrance bulletin board. Each year our school is different. Our environment changes, but the bulletin boards don’t.
When walking around the school, you will notice there are many bulletin boards. Many are blank or have not been updated in months. Some boards have content, but it’s old content. There were very few boards with anything on them. Most of these boards were not updated. We counted three that had relevant information.
We have a good school here and we’re proud of it. We should be able to send positive vibes through bulletin boards.
