Explore the World by Listening to New Music
By Prapasiri Sribanchuen
Music, in my understanding, is a communication tool. Something we use it to communicate with other people, not only from our country, but from people around the world.
Think about it. Music has many different genres, ranging from pop to jazz, rap, country, rock and more that you and I don’t know about. Music genres have sub genres, such as dance pop, synth pop, and teen pop. In the world of music, there are no limits.
I love pop and R&B, but I’ve been thinking about expanding my horizons. For this article I decided to explore and see what my friends like to listen to on a daily basis. Turns out people around me share similar tastes in music. But I have found little groups and styles that I have never heard of before.
For example: the song “Fly High” by Burnout Syndrome. This song is not in English, it’s in Japanese, a language I have always wanted to learn but never actually put in the time to do so. I’d be lying if I said I have never heard this song before because I have. The very first time I heard this song was from one of my favorite anime Haikyuu!!. I will not go into detail about this show because if I did it this article would be longer than a college essay.
The song is under the genre of J-pop – which is, you guessed it, Japanese pop. This genre is not as popular worldwide as K-pop (Korean pop) but it is definitely taking the world by storm as Anime becomes more mainstream.
At first I never actually paid attention to the opening of the anime, but now that one of my friends suggested “Fly High,” I have gone back and actually watched the whole opening to enjoy its entirety.
Of course, now I am getting a lot more suggestions from my friends. Welcome to my journey!
My “new” discoveries:
Fly High - Burnout Syndrome
Great song to listen to when you want to feel hype and ready for a sport or a project event.
Put Your Record On - Rick Momney
This song is so nice to listen to. I did research on this song and turns out it was actually released five years ago. The original artist is not Rick Momney but rather Corinne Bailey Rae. Her version of the song is just as good.
Baby Shark – Johnny Only (orginal), covered by Pinkfong
Honestly the best song out there for when you are feeling down. Baby Shark will always save the day.
Before You Go - Lewis Capaldi
This song is crazy good. I have listened to it several times since the beginning and it’s in my head. I can not stop listening to it.
Driver’s License - Olivia Rodrigo
I have listened to this song at least 10 times a day. It’s always on the radio which makes it impossible to avoid. But this sound is beautifully made
Heather by Conan Grey
This song is can actually help out when you are studying in the library. It has a chill tune and while it’s not extremely upbeat, it’s very nice and easy going.
