Winter
By Emma Bunyea
December
My family is near,
Good old holiday cheer,
I’m very happy.
94.9
24 & 25
The numbers went down in my bank account.
Elvis warbles through,
“I’ll have a bluuuuee…”
Do da do da do
Snow falls
I hide behind these walls,
What a happy time.
January
As I drove home,
the snow upon the treetops falling gently,
my car rumbled.
My brain felt muddled.
Strange to see the midst of winter and feel the warmth.
My bones wanted to chill
my cheeks,
to redden.
But as a gripped the wheel and turned down my road,
all I could feel was
tendrils of heat
enveloping me.
I knew the depression of winter was at my heels.
But all I could think of was how beautiful the scene that became before
me.
February
The shortest month
Feels like the longest this year
What I would do for a
Long, long hot summer night
The shortest days of the year
They’re all so cold cold
Becoming numb to the darkness
Slowly turning into a winter stone
Well everybody's on fire, but its
A snowin' in a cold blizzard
Jimi Hendrix on repeat,
Where are you in this a hot cold summer?
God, god, god
I am tired.
Tired,
Sounds funny after saying it so much.
Scared little Annie
Clean out of her mind
Same.
Annie.
And the telephone keeps on screamin'
Incapable of escaping
The world which
Encapsulates me.
ah can't cha tell I'm ah doin' fine
Lost in my own
Mind.
Rescue me
March
Two quarantines
Seven days apart
CONSTANTLY reminded that
This is the same time when
EVERYTHING was shut down
Ok.
I watched my siblings go to school every day
While I called my peers,
From my bedroom.
It’s nice outside
They tell me.
Ok.
Ok,
I made it outside,
They were right.
The sun feels nice.
Warmer weather is kind.
Goodbye, Winter.
